Generosity
Big Heart City operates on a Dāna (giving/generosity) system. The first perfection of the heart (pāramī), Dāna is foundational to Buddhist practice because it opens our hearts, builds connection, and teaches us to let go.
The Buddha considered the teachings to be priceless, and we continue this tradition of sharing the teachings for free.
We are grateful for those who give more when they can afford more.
Your generosity is never expected, but it is always appreciated.
Statement of Ethics
Donations to Big Heart City will be directed as they were instructed by the donor, to the best of our ability.
Donations made to Big Heart City are anonymously forwarded to teachers. Your donation information will be kept private.
Big Heart City is a registered non-profit organization.
Donations are tax-deductible. Our non-profit tax ID # is 84-1883957.
Directing of Donations
We have four funds that you may direct your donation towards, though most large donors choose to give wherever it is needed most.
We deeply appreciate these donations, and our commitment is to using those donations to support Big Heart City in being a sustainable organization.

We supplement Friday night donations so that all teachers receive a minimum amount when they teach on Friday nights.
The Teacher Fund requires additional donations of $500-$700/month, depending upon the amount that is donated directly on Friday nights.

The Community Fund pays for things that allow us, as a Sangha, to meet.

Covering these expenses through the Community Fund allows Big Heart City to give all donations made that night directly to the teacher.
The Community Fund requires additional donations of $300 per month.

The GSD Fund covers the costs of tech platforms, operational website maintenance, bookkeeping, and credit card processing fees.
Having administrative costs covered allows BHC to forward all donations made on Friday nights directly to the teacher.
The GSD Fund requires additional donations of $433/month.

The Scholarship Fund supplements costs of retreats and daylongs, so that Big Heart City can offer reduced-price ticket options.
The Scholarship Fund requires annual donations of $4,000 per year.
